EDITOR’S NOTE: Please visit our 2011 Flu Clinic info page: Champaign-Urbana Prepares For Flu Season, Clinics Opening

Don’t let this unseasonably warm weather fool you — flu season is on its way, and you can prevent it by dropping in at one of the many clinics around town this month and next to get your influenza vaccination.

This year, the vaccination will help prevent not only the strain of influenza expected to make the rounds but also H1N1. One stop flu-shot shopping, if you will.

According to the American Lung Association, hundreds of thousands of people are hospitalized for flu each year, most of them very young or elderly.

Dr. Norman A. Edelman, chief medical officer for the American Lung Association and professor of preventative medicine at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y., urges everyone to get vaccinated. Not only to prevent their own illnesses, but also to prevent the spread of the disease to those who are most at risk: Children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.

So where can you get your shots? There are locations and times that should suit just about every schedule, offered by both Carle and Christie clinics.
